4 Captivating Documentaries I Watched Last Month | From Amazon Prime Video
While Amazon Prime is frequently my saving grace, I haven’t been the best about taking advantage of their video services. Last summer I binged the first season of the Jack Ryan series, but since then there hasn’t been much I’ve watched with the platform. However, not long after I got my new Roku, I started seeing tweets about the Meek Mill docuseries, Free Meek, and knew I wanted to watch.

The series starts by giving background of Meek and his family life leading up to his first arrest. Slowly, it’s revealed that the arrest may not have been exactly how it was portrayed in the police report and we get to hear the impact a biased judge had on the probation process. Admittedly, I’m not someone that has a ton of knowledge on the judicial system so this was an interesting watch to learn how our court system may not always be just and how probation can often set people up to fail.

The next documentary has been available for awhile now, but Icarus was an intense look at performance enhancing drugs, how they are administered, and the role some countries take in allowing athletes to take them. The film starts with the filmmaker, an amateur cyclist, questioning how Lance Armstrong could have gotten away with doping for years without being caught. After placing in the top twenty of an amateur French bicycle race, he decides to see how his performance would improve through doping.

Not long after this, the film takes a turn: the “doctor,” he’s worked with to create his personal performance enhancing regimen is based in Russia and decides to be a whistleblower on the strategies that Russia has taken to cover up doping by their Olympic athletes. Hearing the repercussions of the whistleblower and seeing the lengths that were went to is mind-blowing.
4 Captivating Documentaries I Watched Last Month | From Hulu
This summer, I added a new {to me} streaming service, by signing up for Hulu. They have a pretty extensive library of documentaries. Two that I watched last month were Whitney and We Are Columbine.
Whitney is about the life of Whitney Houston. We see why she had success, why she was unhappy, and how her addiction to drugs came earlier than many people realize. The ending is sad as we close with the star’s death, but it’s an interesting look at what fame and enabling behavior can do to a person.

We Are Columbine was a tough watch. With gun violence at an all time high in the United States, I wondered if I would make it through the documentary but ultimately decided to watch. The film is directed by a woman that was a freshman at Columbine High School when the school shooting happened. We see interviews with the principal and a teacher that was a first year teacher at the high school. However, the film mostly revolves around four now adults that were all freshmen when the shooting occurred.
Surprisingly this documentary did have a couple of lighthearted moments, but really made me think about the shot and long-term impact of gun violence on our communities.
4 Captivating Documentaries I Watched Last Month | The Outfit
It’s hard to believe that it’s already September but here we are past Labor Day. As I mentioned, this white lace dress from Chicwish is perfect for the bride to be. It can be tough to find a white dress that’s dressy without being over the top, but this one fits the bill. The small hugs my curves without being too tight.

The lace overlay and collar gives the outfit lots of detail; I keep things simple by adding a layered pendant necklace and a new pair of earrings! The layered pendant necklace is the jewelry trend I’m loving right now; it works well with a variety of necklines. Dress it up or wear it casually over a boat neck tee — it’s a piece that helps complete the look.
