Most if not all of us have been there. You gain a couple pounds, see some new photos of yourself or deal with a life event and suddenly you’re less than pleased with how you look. Yep, we’re talking about something real ugly: body insecurities and how to deal with them.
Before we get started, I completely understand that not everyone is the same and that these tips may not work for every single woman or man out there.

How to Deal with Body Insecurities | Recognize Temporary Feelings
I push myself to consider whether my feelings are temporary or long-term. Around my period, it’s really normal for me to feel gross or badly about my body. Usually, I deal with bloating so I always try to remind myself that the body insecurity is a temporary feeling and one that will ultimately pass.

How to Deal with Body Insecurities | Look for a Root Cause
As mentioned above, circling in on what’s causing body insecurity has proven to be key for me. Sometimes the trigger is easy to find: a snide comment from someone or a date that didn’t seem interested. Other times it may be tougher to pinpoint. If it’s a person causing you to feel insecure, consider the influence they have on you and their intent. Are they someone that’s coming from a genuine and good place when they say or do things that make you feel lesser?

How to Deal with Body Insecurities | Talk It Out
I’m an introvert and pretty private even with close friends, but I’ve found that sometimes the best way to accept body insecurity is to talk it out with a friend or family member. If this is out of the question or too stressful, consider journaling it out.

How to Deal with Body Insecurities | The Outfit
One thing I try to do for myself when I’m feeling insecure about my physical appearance is to highlight what I do feel good about! {More on dressing to gain confidence in this post.} I’m a huge fan of higher waisted skirts because they look flattering on my curvy hips and thighs and also are super forgiving when I’m bloated too.
This one is the LuLaRoe Lola skirt and features the teal lace overlay as a fun way to incorporate one of fall’s hottest hues. Midi skirts can feel overwhelming but I love to wear the longer length of the skirt with a fitted top, or in this case, a bodysuit. This super affordable bodysuit features a very subtle cold shoulder and dramatic ruffles.

You look fabulous, lady, from head to toe. Being larger up top than at the bottom, it makes it harder for me to find clothes that fit right. Thanks for the tips too!

I think finding the root cause is so important. So many people struggle with their weight and everyone knows that stereotypically “thin” people are not exempt from that. It is an illness that we as a society have and finding and stamping out our own root cause for those feelings is the only way to concur this battle with ourselves, anything else is just a distraction.

Body image is a hell of a thing if you ask me. It is usually what makes us or breaks us and society doesn’t give us a chance to truly love ourselves for what we are. Every new day is a new body trend that you’re left out of. Thanks for the words of inspiration.
