What. A. Weekend. I’ve been so busy lately that getting my Monday post up has been a real struggle {and the post has mysteriously ended up popping up on Tuesday #iknow} but I’m hoping next weekend is a little more relaxed. Today’s look is definitely a weekend friendly look that isn’t my usual.

I’ll be honest — crop tops aren’t really “my thing,” I’ve always been self conscious of my body & while I don’t consider myself a modest dresser, I do tend to steer clear of items that show lots of cleavage or are overly tight {love them on other people, but I feel exposed and anxious about my body when I wear them.} Enter my mom. My mom isn’t a normal mom {insert ‘she’s a cool mom’ Mean Girls reference} in that she almost always is encouraging me to wear less conservative clothing. Even in my teen years, most of our fights over clothing were me having body image issues and her trying to get me to come out of my comfort zone. So Mom, this look’s for you!
I love anything with stripes pretty much and the ruffle detail on this crop top made it too cute for me to pass up. If just hearing the words “crop” and “top” in the same sentence scares you, check out this BuzzFeed article that shows some of the ways that 10 different bloggers, all with different body shapes, styled a simple crop top. I don’t think I’d be comfortable wearing this with jeans {even if I went to the gym and did abs everyday for a month} but I was okay with having a tiny sliver of skin peeking out. I love the way that Courtney layered her crop top over a dress and I definitely think I could get away with wearing this with a high{er} waisted skirt. One of the fun details {that I forgot to take a photo of – sorry!} is the exposed zipper that runs the length of the back.
I’ve been stalking the Gray Monroe site for awhile now and finally knew I had to have this bomber jacket. They are going to be HUGE this fall and the tan suede makes it the perfect neutral piece to layer over printed tops and dresses. This one sold out super quickly, BUT the good news is that they have opened up a pre-order so that you can definitely get one! I’m wearing the small for reference.
