Hot take: we really need to stop allowing people to say that clothes and makeup are frivolous items that women give too much value. When I’m well dressed, I have more confidence, higher self-esteem, and feel ready to take on the world. While there are things that I value more than my clothes, I do place high value on my self-esteem. And that’s why I believe that you should buy clothes that give you confidence.

Why You Should Buy Clothes That Give You Confidence | Find Your Value In More Than Your Life Roles.
While we’re talking about confidence and self-esteem, can we just talk about how absolutely crazy the world we live in is? As women, society places so many expectations on how we should act, look, talk, cater to others, and the list just goes on. I won’t get too far into how unrealistic those expectations are in this post, but the idea that women can only find value from their roles in life is so outdated.
Let's talk about confidence and clothes: Click To TweetWhy You Should Buy Clothes That Give You Confidence | What I Take Pride In.
For me, I take pride in my personal growth, compassion for others, and creative mind. One of the ways that I express my creativity is through what I wear + I’m a big believer in choosing clothes that make you feel good about yourself. While this looks different for each of us, one of the stores that makes clothes that give me confidence is Draper James!

I love that the brand embraces color, fun prints, comfortable fabrics and a number of different silhouettes – including my personal favorite: the fit and flare. While I’d heard of the brand before, my first real introduction was when they opened their third store earlier this year in Lexington, Kentucky. And let me just say, if you have a chance to visit one of the three locations {or the new store opening later in Atlanta!}, do it! My in-store shopping experiences have been so fun; the sales associates are kind and have fun with you.

Last month, I picked up this outfit with the help of the Lexington team. The sequins and beads on this embellished collar are such a fun detail that makes this collared shirt such a bold statement piece. The colors in the statement collar pair so well with this fall floral skirt. With bold colors and pockets, I know I’ll get a ton of wear out of this fit and flare skirt this fall. Most importantly, this outfit makes me feel like the best version of myself.

When I attended the Southern Living Magazine release party last week with Tif, I ended up wearing this and getting so many compliments from other party-goers! The outfit also looks great with nude pumps although I’d love to rock this skirt with a pair of cobalt heels.

I become so much more confident in myself when I started wearing things I liked and that fit me well without worrying about the size on the tag or if it was “in”. Be true to who you are and wear what you like! I couldn’t agree more!
whatnicolewore@gmail.com says
Amen! Such a good point about sizing too; I think people get caught up in that but should worry more about the clothes fitting in a way that they’re comfortable in
Kellyann Rohr says
Absolutely, clothes are an expression of ourselves and no matter what you never get a second chance to make a first impression! No matter what we choose too wear if we like it then it shows and there is nothing more attractive than a confident, happy woman.
I learned when I worked in oncology that a little make up and the right wig made a woman’s self esteem soar while dealing with the ravages of chemotherapy. As a counselor I have had people question and make remarks about the attention I pay to my appearance. This cracks me up because that’s exactly why I do – I understand the relationship between our appearance and what’s going on inside.

Preach Kellyann! People think things are silly but at the end of the day, if it makes YOU feel better about yourself there’s no reason to question it!

Totally agree, clothes should boost confidence and help you feel more like yourself! I I think it totally changes how someone carries themselves and it’s amazing! I usually skip the trends and would rather feel more confident even if it’s in something like elephant pants haha
whatnicolewore@gmail.com says
Hahaha it’s true though, if elephant pants make you feel good about yourself then rock them!

I appreciate the emphasis on dressing for confidence! Especially as an older (59) woman, and still overweight (I’ve lost about 20 lbs, but still need to lose about 35 more!), I really need all the confidence I can get! I do try to buy and wear clothes that make me feel good about myself and NOT self-conscious about my flaws. I love that bright skirt – you look beautiful in it!

Ahhh congrats to you on the weight loss 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and yes clothes should be ALL about what you feel good about yourself in!
