Complete the Look! Finishing Touches You Need For Fall

As we get to the end of a season, I always find myself sorting through my accessories to refresh my outfits.  While I’m ready for fall clothes, I’m looking forward to another six-ish weeks of summer.  In order to make sure I don’t get tired of my clothes, I make things new by introducing specific new pieces.  Keep reading for more of my tips on how to complete the look.

Have you heard of the 3-piece rule? Lots of clothing retailers teach their sales associates that no outfit is complete with less than 3 pieces. Think about it, when you put on a top and jeans, you might break out a pair of fun earrings or throw on a scarf. You’ll rarely see an outfit post on WNW that features less than three items; I fully believe in the power of accessorizing.

Over the past five or so years, I’ve found myself investing more in completer pieces and here’s why. They spruce up basics, give a new look to closet staples and often are an inexpensive way to remix your wardrobe.

Complete the Look | Why Start with Accessories?

When I’m gearing up for a new season, I find myself shopping for pieces that complete the look first. To me, these pieces are so easy to wear during the weather transition and I’ve found that I get more wear out of wearing say a new fall necklace in August than a thick sweater.

For this summer to fall transition outfit, I complete the look with a gold pendant necklace that doesn’t overwhelm, navy tassel earrings and my bamboo bag.

    I’ve been doing a lot of this recently – starting with accessories and then completing the outfit! It can be so much more POW if your look has those fun extra pieces. Way more interesting than “just” a dress or “just” a top and shorts!

    WOW Nicole you nailed this Fall look. I love it so much. The skirt and cardigan are darling. Is the skirt recent?! I just got similar taupe/beige OTK boots from the #NSale this year and cannot wait to wear them but I also would love another 6 weeks of Summer. =) I also believe in the three-piece rule and try it very often if not always.
