One of the traditions my mom started with me when I was younger was taking me to high tea. I remember it being such a cool experience as a preteen and have enjoyed going to teas since. This year I decided I wanted to take my mom to a holiday tea and landed on the Holiday Tea at the St. Regis Hotel in downtown Washington DC.

Why St. Regis DC? | DC Holiday Tea at St. Regis Hotel
Before we even got into the holiday season, I knew that I wanted to go to a holiday tea downtown but then came the question of “which one?” I did some reading, which included this article from the Washingtonian, and decided to book at the St. Regis. I really wanted to go somewhere that would have fun Christmas decor up and pictures of the lobby from previous years looked gorgeous.
The St. Regis DC is located in Black Lives Matter Plaza and is a couple of blocks from the White House. Parking was easy — please note that I am -strictly- a garage or lot parker when it comes to DC. While everyone has strengths, parallel parking is not one of mine.

One thing I love about going to tea is that you get to sample a mix of sweet and savory bites. Admittedly, while cucumber sandwiches are a staple of high tea, they’re not my favorite. At this tea, I loved the turkey tea sandwich; it had a layer of dressing underneath which made it the perfect holiday tea sandwich in my opinion.
The presentation of all the bites at the St. Regis was gorgeous; I loved the flowers that they included on the tea sandwiches and the sweet bites being on a Christmas tree shaped tiered tray was beautiful. On the sweet side, I loved the cranberry scones that were served with clotted cream. The scones were still warm and absolutely delicious.
About Holiday Tea at St. Regis DC
Each guest of the holiday tea receives that year’s White House Christmas ornament which is a fun touch and also transparently helped me to justify the cost. This was the priciest tea I’ve done at $109 per person. For reference, I took my mom to a 3-course, afternoon tea for her birthday at a tea parlor in Northern Virginia for $45 per person.
As I mentioned previously, the holiday decor was a huge selling point to me. I’m so glad my mom and I were able to have the experience and get some photos together too.
