Today’s look marks the end of the Blogmas series and is geared towards helping you get ready for New Year’s Eve. My big plans for New Year’s Eve include a bottle of Trader Joe’s pre-mixed Bellini, my couch and actively avoiding every couple I know, but I put together an outfit that’s super easy for you to recreate with pieces that I promise are already in your closet. {Because no one should HAVE to run out and buy an entire new outfit after spending he equivalent of a month’s rent on gifts for others, am I right? Although, if you want a new outfit — go get that new outfit, girl!}

One of the clothing staples that my sweet mama wouldn’t let me enter {even} high school without was the classic little black dress; I distinctly remember her lecturing me in a shop about how important of a wardrobe piece it was and thinking that it just couldn’t be that good. And per usual, my mom was right. While I definitely love my bright and bold colors too much to be an “all black, all the time” kind of gal, I can admit that a good all black outfit brings a very chic vibe that’s perfect for special occasions like New Year’s Eve.
So while most of us have a black dress {or two or three — or beyond #judgmentfreezone}, I wanted to break up the all black just a little bit. I pulled out this new top that I just got from SheIn and paired it with a black bodycon skirt that I snagged from my local Goodwill a few years back. This top caught my eye because of the large yolk eyelet it features along the neckline and then as a ruffle layer on the sleeves. The sleeves flare out and give the top some of that same drama that we see in the bell sleeves that have been so popular once again this year. I really love that the sleeves are elbow length, because anything longer tends to somehow get dragged through salad dressing or BBQ sauce for me. I’ve always loved black and white pieces and I know most of my friends have a dressier top that falls into this palette. Pair yours with a black skirt like I did here or go a different route — pair it with black skinny jeans, velvet or leather leggings or even a sparkly pair of pants to ring in the new year.
With the weather yo-yoing constantly, I decided to wear my over the knee boots with the mini skirt and I pulled out my taupe pair {instead of my black ones} to lighten up the look. You could just as easily wear some fun printed tights and ankle boots if you don’t have over the knee boots in your closet. I kept my accessories pretty minimal here: a dangly, statement earring that’s affordable {that way I don’t feel the need to cry if I somehow manage to lose them while dancing #ItHappens}, a simple pendant necklace that adds to the top quietly, and my trusty leopard clutch to hold all my essentials. If you’re nervous about a clutch, definitely pull out a wristlet or crossbody so that you can keep your phone safe and be able to call an Über or cab if things get crazy.
I hope you have a great weekend celebrating the end of 2016 and the start of the new year and I’m excited to see you in 2017!
