Goodbye 2019: Best of the Year | Favorite Blog Posts
It’s not a secret that Derby content is some of my favorite each year and this year the most popular new blog post showed that! Outfit ideas for how to dress bright for the Kentucky Derby and Easter was one of my first attempts into outfit idea graphics and quickly showed me that y’all love this kind of content.
Other popular posts this year:
- 24 Hour Challenge + What to Do in Saint Louis // 2019 had very few trips but I know of a few trips I’ll be taking in 2020 already and hope to bring more travel content to WNW in the new year.
- What to Wear to Thurby: Best Dressed for Derby // Derby is always a crazy time of year both for Louisville and for my blog, but it’s fun to see that this DIY fascinator was one of the most popular posts this year.
- Anthony Vince Spa Review + Dip Nails: the Good, Bad, & Ugly // It’s been two years since I tried out powder dip nails & I still maintain that I wouldn’t go back to doing them again.
- Why I’m Tired of Bloggers: On Being Unethical // I won’t lie; I dealt with a lot of creative burnout this year and I think it was due to me playing the comparison game too much. It’s hard not to notice when everyone around you is willing to sell out to get ahead, but I also know that it’s equally important for me to let go of negative energy and focus on myself. Still, I’m glad I was able to pull back the curtain on what goes on in the blogging industry for those outside of it.

Goodbye 2019: Best of the Year | My Favorite Blog Posts
- Self Acceptance, Race, and Hair: On Being Different // Hands down, this was my favorite post that I hit publish on this year. I’m incredibly proud of it and it was pretty special getting to share a part of my life experience that is deeply personal, sometimes painful, and unique to me. The replies from other black women and were unaware of micro-aggressions around hair were really moving too.
- Here’s What Happened When I Changed My Skincare Routine // After years of not knowing where or when to use serums and oils, I did a bunch of research and updated my skincare routine. Within a month of giving up my facial skin brush, switching to chemical exfoliants, and adding serum and oil, I noticed much clearer skin.
- The Worst First Date I Ever Went On // My friend Annaliese and I commiserate over being single and what modern dating looks like quite a bit, but I never expected the replies I got when I asked followers and readers to submit their worst dating experiences. {PS. Thinking I’ll recap this for 2020’s Valentine’s Day post.} After spending over a week laughing at some of the worst dates you could possibly imagine, I shared the details of the worst first date I went on.
Goodbye 2019: Best of the Year | Popular Selling Items
Leopard, lace, leather, and denim…so many of the things I love are included in this year’s top sellers. About half of these items were from outfit idea graphics. While I try to share those here, I frequently add them to my LIKEtoKNOW.it profile where you can shop my looks for free! Here’s a run down of the top twelve:
- leopard crossbody bag // This bag popped into my monthly top sellers in August and ended up staying there the rest of the year! Knowing we’re all leopard lovers makes my heart happy.
- Black sidewalk skirt // I have this skirt in navy, black, and a few prints. It’s so easy to style and one of my go to’s when I don’t know what to wear.
- Leopard midi skirt // Animal print skirts had a big moment this year; I shared a few different outfit ideas with this one and quickly realized that I needed it as well. {This J. Crew Factory version was backordered during the fall so I snagged this leopard midi skirt from Evereve.}
- Olive pull-on wide leg pants // These were sold out at my local store, but I loved the idea of a comfortable, olive pair of pants so much that I ordered them for myself. {See them in action here.}
- Blush moto jacket // This jacket is one I snagged as part of my ambassadorship with my local Evereve store. The color is one that’s been very versatile.

Goodbye 2019: Best of the Year | The Rest
- Classic denim jacket // I took the big step of getting my first jean jacket this year. It’s something I’ve been able to wear a ton & I’m not sure how I went so long without one.
- Striped satin dress // This dress was on sale in the pre-Derby season and I’m so glad I ordered it. My friends over at Fascinate Designs created a gorgeous, custom fascinator to match; check it out here!
- Green wrap dress // Green was a color I loved this past spring & I loved that this wrap dress could be dressed up or down.
- Black lace bodysuit // Originally I ordered this Prime shipping bodysuit for a date but after I got stood up, I tucked it away. I ended up getting a chance to wear it when I saw Lizzo in October and got a bunch of Instagram DMs asking about it. It looks cute with jeans, under a plaid blazer, or with a skirt.
- Black and gold ornament set // Next year: Christmas decor post. Really. Don’t judge me if I break my cardinal rule and have the tree up on the first of November.
- Blue crossbody bag // On a list wrapping up so many of my favorite things, its only right that there’s some Kentucky blue.
- Tote bag // This tote is PERFECT for work, can fit a laptop or iPad, and is under $50.
Goodbye 2019: Best of the Year | Best of Instagram
And to wrap up our goodbye to 2019…here’s my Instagram Top Nine most engaged posts. While I don’t foresee my own bridal content coming anytime soon, I’m excited to share more ways to wear posts, giveaways, and Derby content in 2020. Hoping the balance of pretty pictures and keeping it real can be a little bit better in the new year too!
Thank you so much for following along this year; I’m excited for 2020 and what it holds for What Nicole Wore. Wishing you and yours a very happy New Year!
