Friday Favorites: Hello April! | What’s New
Let’s start with the highlights:
- I had lots of happy mail this week! A box full of goodness from beautyblender + Influenster, the new Naked Petite Heat palette, a new dress from the Draper James Easy Pieces line, and I even bought a new swimsuit {great clearance find!}

- We got some nice weather; I was able to run out Tuesday and shoot some new content for the blog that I’m really excited about.
- After a super busy couple of weeks, I {was forced to take} got some downtime which meant listening to lots of podcasts:
- I listened to 2 episodes of Small Doses with Amanda Seales – Side Effects of F*ckboys and Side Effects of Being Type A. The Type A podcast briefly discussed how minority women are often vilified by their own communities for behavior that is celebrated in white women, which was something I really hadn’t thought of before but definitely can be accurate.
- Crooked Conversations | I listened to the episode on gerrymandering with Tony Goldwyn; while I understood the general concept of what gerrymandering was this really helped to further explain it in a way I understood.
- Pod Save America | This is my usual workflow listen but I listened to both of this week’s episodes.
- Jalen & Jacoby | I haven’t been listening to this one as regularly lately but listened to the episode with Jemele Hill and it was a real gem.
Friday Favorites: Hello April! | And the Lowlights?
Well…I got strep throat for the first time ever! I started not feeling so hot on Easter Sunday but wrote it off as allergies since everything is starting to bloom; Wednesday morning I woke up, went back to sleep, and woke up again feeling awful. Thursday morning I went to see my nurse practitioner and sure enough, strep throat. It’s been super annoying for a number of reasons, but the extreme fatigue this week has probably been the worst. Wednesday and Thursday nights I was trying to finish a blog post and just could not do it. This is such a busy season for blogging so I’m looking forward to my antibiotics kicking in so I can live my best life.
Friday Favorites: Hello April! | What I’m Loving Right Now
- This mint fascinator! We’re officially in Derby season and so it feels like I’m constantly looking for Derby pieces. I found this gorgeous fascinator for under $100 as part of a sample sale and can’t get over how gorgeous it would look with a white dress!
- Lemon Print Summer Dress | I love a good novelty print and this lemon dress is no exception! It’s perfect for summer by itself or under a jean jacket.

- Collapsible Garment Rack | One of the things I’ve been wanting for my office is a garment rack; I get new clothes in all the time and having a designated space to outfit plan for shoots was really important to me. I finally pulled the trigger on this one from Target last week and am really hoping it will help reduce some of the clutter in my bedroom around shoot days.
- Flounce Jumpsuit | Lately I’ve been crushing on jumpsuits and I really love this black one that can be dressed up or down, plus it’s under $30!
- Naked Petite Heat Palette | I can’t get over how mini this palette is; I have a trip coming up the first week of May and was planning to take my Backtalk palette, but may swap it out for this compact one to save some room.
