Editing this post at the last minute to say: the best laid plans sometimes just don’t work out! I was SO excited about wearing this outfit to Kentucky Derby 144 but life happened and it’s just not happening unfortunately. That being said, this is hands down my favorite Derby look from this year and this fascinator is AMAZING. Without further ado, here’s how to look chic in jumpsuits for spring and summer.

How to Look Chic in Jumpsuits for Kentucky Derby 144 | Navy Jumpsuit
It was love at first sight with this navy floral jumpsuit from Shop the Mint; I’d been wanting to snag a wide legged jumpsuit for a hot minute. I knew the colors in the floral print would make it perfect for Derby and summertime. The mint and hot pink hues in the print make it easy to accessorize around. Full disclosure: I did struggle when I first got it to figure out how to get into it; make sure you lengthen the straps and step into the jumpsuit versus trying to step in and then pull the straps over your head.

What I really love about this piece is the balance it provides with the open back, high waist and fitted body. The wide pants and full length legs balance out the exposed skin that comes with the open, strappy back.
How to Look Chic in Jumpsuits for Kentucky Derby 144 | The Fascinator
Last year two local gals, Sara and Val, created their own millinery business; I actually met them both at Thurby and was blown away with how gorgeous their fascinators were. This year they designed me a custom piece and I knew that a fascinator with the navy, mint and hot pink from this jumpsuit would be a showstopper. They came up with a couple of different base options for me and then I was able to suggest add ons {or even going simpler!} The entire process was so easy and one I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a fascinator or Derby hat in the future.

How to Look Chic in Jumpsuits for Kentucky Derby 144 | The Accessories
Between the eye-catching print and the stunning headpiece, I knew I wanted to go for complementary accessories that wouldn’t make the outfit too busy. Ultimately, I reached for my white leather Rebecaa Minkoff clutch — it has card slots inside and can fit your keys and phone too! I shied away from big statement earrings since I knew I’d probably wear my hair down and in curls and instead opted for my Kendra Scott Elisa necklace. I talk about this all the time but it’s the perfect everyday dainty necklace that can be layered or worn alone. {If you’re wondering just how good this necklace is, I have it in 3 different colors just due to the versatility!}

You can wear this to the track, to girls’ night out or date night, to showers, and even pair it under a jean jacket or blazer if you’re heading somewhere and nervous about the strappy factor.
