Classic black and white is always my go to when I’m going through a ‘hating everything in my closet’ phase. This Old Navy tank is super soft and lightweight. Also, shameless plug here, but be sure to check out Old Navy regramming me from last weekend if you missed it.
(Semi) deep thoughts with Nicole: does anyone else worry a lot about what their “real life” friends think of their blog + Instagram? I had kept a separate Instagram for this reason for years before I finally broke down and committed to whatnicolewore at the beginning of this year. Still, even months into embracing this “identity,” I still find myself getting incredibly anxious every time a friend, co-worker, etc follows me.
Do they think I’m vain? Do they think I’m irresponsible or that I place too much importance in material items? Do they secretly hate me now? Am I weird?
When I refer to whatnicolewore as an “identity,” it’s not me having a split personality issue, but more of me knowing that I only show certain aspects of my life (mostly what I wear/buy) and that I also only show the good parts of that aspect of my life (you’ll never see an #ootd post of me in my Nike shorts and old frat rush t-shirt but I assure you, it’s what I’m wearing as I write this post.
I started posting outfits on Instagram so that I wouldn’t wear the same thing all the time and it turned into this thing for me. I struggled so hard with self-image and confidence for years and somehow something as silly as posting outfits made me better and has allowed me to accept and love myself as I am.
Is it weird? Yeah. Am I okay with it? Yeah. Do I still worry about what people think about it and of me? Hell yeah.
Turquoise forever. Did you catch this post?
I couldn’t resist this tank when I saw it at Target. They have a ton of cute options available and under $10 right now!
While I’m definitely looking forward to being able to wear all my fall clothing, I am enjoying not being cold and skirt weather.
This necklace is about to be on heavy repeat. Love, love, love turquoise accents. The added marble look is a huge plus to me.
This outfit was the perfect one to kick off the Kentucky football season in. I love all shades of blue but cobalt has to be my favorite hands down.
It’s still way too hot for this scarf, but I know it’ll make the super cold months so much more bearable.
This was the ultimate Labor Day weekend find; I’d heard of people finding Hunter boots at Nordstrom Rack for years now, but hadn’t had any luck at my local Rack. I happened to go by to look at handbags during Clear the Rack and went to do a quick lap of the store after not finding anything.
As I passed the designer shoes, I figured I’d stop and look at the Tory Burch flats only to be completely distracted by Hunter boots! I tried on the neoprene tours in red first and really liked the adjustable calf.
This dress is a new fave, just as pretty much anything plaid or gingham is for me. Excited to pair it with a long sweater and booties once it cools off.
I’ve been starting to add more cardigans to my wardrobe to prep for the cooler temps that will inevitably show up at some point. I’ve been wanting to get a few that are a bit longer so that I can wear them with leggings and this one from Old Navy is perfect. It comes in a light purple too.
Um, hello new gym clothes! These leggings and shorts were part of a giveaway I won from Devon Maryn and I am in love. All of the products are made in the USA, feature fun prints and are high quality. I’m not usually a fan of ordering workout leggings without being able to try them on, but the size chart made the process really easy. Even better the leggings are appropriately thick which is important to me since I tend to do a lot of lifting when I work out. One of my worst fears is being bent over doing arms or on the smith machine squatting and not knowing that my leggings are see through.
So naturally, the first thing I did when my box arrived was pull a pair on and start doing squats in front of the mirror. Sounds a bit crazy, but you can never be too safe in my mind. I’m pleased to share that these are squat and lift-friendly. I’d highly recommend the leggings; I don’t usually work out in shorts so I’ve just lounged around the house in these – they’re real comfortable.
This skirt is definitely a fan favorite and will be a Nicole favorite once I remember to take it to the tailor.
Stripes are easily my favorite pattern (sorry to all the loyal leopard print fans out there) and is usually my solution to jazz up a basic outfit. See t-shirt + cardigan + jeans above. A white tee would look fine in this look but I think the stripes give the outfit a more complete feel and the leopard print tassel necklace gives a very subtle dash of pattern mixing as well as making the outfit look and feel thought through.
I’m usually always overdressed (I really don’t mind it), but yesterday I felt super lazy and kind of gross about myself. It seemed like everything I thought I wanted to wear didn’t feel flattering so I opted to stay super casual in a spirit jersey and skinny jeans. I’m not usually a big VS PINK fan; in my opinion the collegiate collection is overpriced. I realize spirit jerseys are trendy and whatnot but $60 for a t-shirt that I’m going to lounge around the house in feels wrong. However, when it went on sale last year, I caved. While it’s super cozy, I don’t feel like it’s the most flattering item I own.
