I’ve been waiting to write this post for MONTHS and it feels surreal to finally be doing it! You probably can guess from the title of the post but I’m moving…back to Northern Virginia. Moving during a pandemic is for sure a different experience, but I’m so thankful things have worked out and for this new chapter.

A Personal Update I’m Excited to Share: I’m Moving! | Some Background
I spent about half of my childhood in the DC metro area, I interned in Washington DC for two summers, and so it definitely feels like “home” in its own way. Towards the end of 2019, my parents talked to me about their intention to move back to Northern Virginia. Being single, I’ve always envisioned living within a couple hours’ drive of my family at least until I start my own {one day, maybe.} After thinking through it, I decided that I would follow them post-Derby, save some money by not paying rent {thanks mom and dad}, get settled, and then decide on my own re: living arrangements.

Moving was hands down going to be my big 2020 thing…and then the world temporarily paused.
A Personal Update I’m Excited to Share: I’m Moving! | COVID Life
As you can imagine, going through the steps of planning a move during a global pandemic is a tad overwhelming. Throughout the process though, it’s felt like fate that I was at home with my family waiting to move because I know having to quarantine separately would have been emotionally tough on me. Hearing other friends’ struggle with deciding to risk visits, miss holidays, etc. really has shown me how lucky I’ve been in this timing. A couple months difference could mean spending lockdown alone and while I’m an introvert…I’m more of an extroverted introvert and definitely a big family gal.
A Personal Update I’m Excited to Share: I’m Moving! | And Then It Happened
Right as I’d started to wonder if this move might be postponed until 2021 or later, my parents’ house sold. A few weeks after that, they found their new home in Northern Virginia and next week {!!!} we’ll all be leaving Louisville. As thrilling as it is, it’s tough to be doing this at a time when I can’t stop by all my favorite places and say goodbye to all of my friends before leaving, but I’m seeing it as a sign to plan a trip to visit as soon as it’s safe. {Also missing my last Derby season had me in my feels so clearly I have to come back.}

Leaving Louisville is bittersweet; I’ve long known that this was not where I saw myself settling, but Louisville also has such a big piece of my heart. I’ve really come into my own here from starting my blog to learning to stand up for myself and end toxic friendships, dating and just becoming more secure in who I am.
A Personal Update I’m Excited to Share: I’m Moving! | What’s Next
So what’s next? Movers are coming next week to pack and load everything up and at the end of the week, I’ll drive out to Virginia. Driving nine hours usually wouldn’t be exciting but with quarantine I haven’t gotten out much and am actually really looking forward to the road trip. {Safety note: I plan to only stop to get gas and/or drive thru food to minimize potential exposure as much as possible.}
A Personal Update I’m Excited to Share: I’m Moving! | How I’m Feeling
I’m definitely feeling overwhelmed probably due to how things went from 0 to 100 in the span of a couple weeks after waiting months. August for SURE is going to be a chaotic month for me as I’ll be living in a hotel for a bit, but I’m looking forward to being in the new house and a change in quaranscene. {Also if we’re being real: I’m very excited to be near a Wegman’s again.}
There will be lots to figure out {from finding a new therapist to picking my go to nail salon to discovering new shoot locations, etc.} but I’m feeling ready to take on these challenges. While it’s mind boggling to think that I’ve been blogging 5 1/2 years now, I’m also thrilled that I’ll get to share this next chapter with y’all!
PS. If you have any DC, VA, or MD bloggers, businesses, or restaurants that I need to check out, let me know!

That’s so exciting! Good luck with the move–you’re right that does sound like a long car trip, but I agree that a car ride sounds kind of relaxing right about now. Anything to get out of the house! I love your leopard skirt too!
