Hey y’all, happy Thursday! Today I’m sharing a casual outfit that I rocked last week as well as how I survive as an introvert in an extroverted field. Attending meet-ups and networking events used to give me terrible anxiety so I’m telling you my top 5 tips to power through and look like the most outgoing person in the room. Being an introvert can be tough in social situations, but doesn’t make conquering them impossible.

Plaid About You | The Outfit
For starters, let’s talk about this outfit! This skirt has been restocked, is available in most sizes, and on sale. Somewhat naively, I thought that I’d only wear this a few times before football season but in reality, it’s been a wardrobe workhorse. Last week, I pulled this combination on to run around town. The high waist of this skirt makes the bodysuit look modest.
The ruffle and polka dot details of this $10 bodysuit sold me; I love the easy print mix possibility. To add to the mix, I pulled out this leather and calf hair mini satchel from Vera Bradley. The size is perfect for keys, a small wallet, and my sunglasses.
Being an Introvert | The Tips.
People that know me through blogging are often surprised when I describe myself as an introvert. For me, What Nicole Wore, allows me to express my creativity as my own one woman show. If you didn’t know, I shoot all my own photos, so blogging really is something that I can thrive in as an introvert.
However, blogging does require lots of communication and interaction with others between collaborations, engaging with readers, networking, and beyond. Over time, I’ve learned to be less anxious about this side of blogging through the following techniques.
- Fake It Until You Become It. I watched this popular TED talk about six months ago and it’s something that has helped my mindset so much. Amy shares that the ‘fake it till you make it’ mindset is SO yesterday; you have to believe that if you keep faking it, you eventually become it. While it sounds a bit cheesy at first, over time you become more comfortable doing the uncomfortable things.
- Practice Makes Perfect. Usually while getting ready, I stop and look at my full length mirror to practice my introductory smile and even my, “Hi, I’m Nicole!” As silly as it sounds getting yourself used to the routine of introducing yourself, and even your go-to small talk topics, eases you into the process.
- Wear Your Power Outfit. I’ve discussed that clothes often make me feel more confident, but did you know they also make me feel less introverted? When I feel confident, I’m comfortable putting myself out there and less likely to shirk into a corner and look at my phone for an event. My power outfit always gets capped off with a bold lipstick; I try to use a liquid matte so I don’t have to worry about smudging or smearing.
- Do Your Research! If you’re going to a networking event be sure to make a look of “targets,” or people you’re interested in meeting. Go ahead and get your general information about them. Do you have things in common? What specifically do you want to talk to them about? Going to a blogging event? Learn more about the store or company before going. Having this mental list and knowledge always eases my anxiety over being an introvert.
- When All Else Fails…Beyoncé. This one sounds sarcastic but it’s not! Get your adrenaline and energy going by listening to your pump up playlist. After I’ve jammed out, I’m ready to take on the world.
Hope these five tips helped; are you an introvert or an extrovert? What do you do to prepare for social or work situations that make you nervous?
