It’s officially Derby Week! Saturday night, I headed to Churchill Downs with my friend Emily for the Awards in the Arts event. This is what I ended up wearing with a couple of small tweaks. Sadly, this dress sold out already, but I wanted to share this look as it’s the perfect Kentucky Oaks outfit.

How to Best Wrap Up Your Kentucky Oaks Outfit | What I Love About The Dress & Color Combo
I mentioned in a post last week that trying to find a dress with orange was super tough. Orange isn’t a color that I wear super often so I knew I wanted to find a Derby dress, jumpsuit, or skirt that would work beyond Oaks day and opening night at Churchill Downs. This striped dress has the cutest bow detail on the back and one that I know I can wear to summer weddings and dressier events.

I ended up finding this bow back dress while looking through Nordstrom’s spring sale; it was marked down and while it was still a bit more than I typically spend, I knew it would be something I could wear for multiple occasions. The pink, orange, and coral-blush combination is so bright and happy and I feel like this dress has a bit of a Kate Spade vibe going on.
How to Best Wrap Up Your Kentucky Oaks Outfit | The Fascinator
The ladies from Fascinate Designs created a fascinator for me last year {see it here!} and I knew they’d create something perfect to go with this dress. While they’re no longer taking custom orders, be sure to give them a follow on Instagram to see where you can pick up some of their creations in Louisville or coordinate pick up/local drop off.

As soon as I ordered this dress, I reached out to them and they were kind enough to agree to design something for me, even though I am perhaps the worst and had no idea of what I wanted the fascinator to look like. Once my dress arrived, I dropped it off so that they could create a piece that matched perfectly…and let me tell you, they nailed it. Val and Sara will email you during the process so that you have input on design options and even share if there’s something you want to add to the headpiece. The curled feathers look amazing and I love that this fascinator is adjustable so you can decide which side you want to part your hair on.
How to Best Wrap Up Your Kentucky Oaks Outfit | What I Wore to Accessorize the Look
These gingham block heels have been on repeat quite a bit lately. They’re incredibly comfortable and if you’ve been around for awhile you know that I love gingham. When I wore this Saturday, I actually ended up wearing my new blush heels! And while my orange Michael Kors crossbody purse works with this look, I ended up swapping it out for my Kate Spade ice cream purse.

When I’m going to Churchill Downs, I really like to break out my statement pieces that make it easy to strike up a conversation with a stranger. I knew this dress already had a Kate Spade look and the ice cream bucket purse would bring it over the top. To complete the look, I added a pair of hot pink lucite hoop earrings that I snagged from Work the Metal and a pink beaded necklace.
Happy Derby week y’all!

You always wear color so well Nicole. I love you in orange. This is your best Kentucky Derby Outfit yet. Love the dress, sandals and hair piece. All stunning!
In my latest post I talk a little bit about Michigan and its great lakes. =) Come check it out and join my Thursday Moda Linkup on Thursdays, too.
