Back this week with another city guide this time for Lexington, Kentucky. Lexington’s about 75 minutes down the road from Louisville, known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” and is the second largest city in Kentucky while being the 60th largest in the United States.

24 Hour Challenge + What to Do in Lexington KY | Shopping
Seeing as Savannah and I met working retail together, it made sense to make at least one stop to shop. We started off our day visiting the Summit at Fritz Farm which is the perfect place to grab lunch, get some steps in, and do some window or actual shopping. We stopped into a ton of the shops including Kendra Scott, E. Leigh’s Boutique, Bath and Body Works, LUSH, Scout & Molly’s, and more.

For lunch, we went to J. Alexander’s but the Summit has plenty of food options including Shake Shack, Ted’s, Steel City Pops, and a large food court called The Barn.

We were in town to see a concert held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark which is where the Lexington Legends, a Minor League Baseball Class A affiliate play. Aside from taking in a concert or catching a baseball game, you can visit some of the local distilleries on the Bourbon Trail, head to Keeneland, and tour the Kentucky Castle.

24 Hour Challenge + What to Do in Lexington KY | Where to Stay
Knowing that the concert would run late and we probably would be catching up over drinks, we opted to get an Air BNB for the night. I was super excited when I first saw this tiny house because the concept is so interesting to me and what better way to learn more about it than actually experiencing one for a weekend. This Air BNB is pretty close to downtown Lexington; none of our Ubers/Lyfts were over $6, and the house can sleep three people at an affordable rental rate.

We both were enthralled as soon as we walked into the space; it was bright, clean, welcoming, and just adorable.
24 Hour Challenge + What to Do in Lexington KY | Tiny House Thoughts
I won’t lie — when we first checked in, I was convinced that it was time to rethink my life and become a tiny home connoisseur and while I do think this is SUCH a fun idea for weekend getaways with a couple friends, I don’t think I’ll be building a tiny house anytime soon.

24 Hour Challenge + What to Do in Lexington KY | Tiny House Cons
Some downsides:
- The shower is teeny tiny! The house also has a limited water supply so long showers are out of the question.
- Speaking of the bathroom: the toilet situation isn’t the same as at home. While still better than a portapotty in my opinion, it was an interesting experience. The bathroom doesn’t have its own sink but is right across from the kitchen sink.
- Sleeping setup! As you can see from the photos there’s one twin bed “downstairs” and then a queen bed that you can climb up to. I slept in the “upstairs” area and while I slept pretty well, I’d advise against it if you’re going to be doing any drinking.

And the upsides:
- Great for hanging out! I could always talk to Sav which I know some people may hate but we were able to play music and easily catch up.
- The high ceilings: I really think that the high ceilings of this space made it feel open, modern, and spacious. The larger mattress obviously doesn’t have ceilings as extended so fair warning that your topknot may be brushing the ceiling up there.
- The cute factor: honestly we probably spent 30 minutes just talking about how cute our Air BNB was. For the two of us, it felt like enough space to hang out without being cramped.
