They say it’s the little things in life and it’s true; I’m thoroughly enjoying that it feels like fall lately in northern Virginia. It felt fitting to share a safe fall bucket list plus an early fall outfit that I think I’ll continue to remix throughout the season.

My (Socially Distanced & Safe) Fall Bucket List | Do You Miss Face to Face Interactions?
Over the weekend I got to meet up with my blogger friend Annaliese to grab lunch on a patio and realized how much I miss being able to chat with friends face to face. Most of us are dealing with some level of pandemic fatigue and loneliness so finding activities that we can safely do while gathered is pretty high on our to do list.
My (Socially Distanced & Safe) Fall Bucket List | Outdoor Activities for Fall
One way to do this is finding outdoor spaces to meet up. This fall, here’s some ideas of things you can do with friends!
- Visit an orchard. Pick out pumpkins or, even better in my book, go apple picking! It’s a great opportunity to get outdoors and afterwards everyone that went can share what recipes they’re making with their apples. In Louisville, I loved Hidden Hollow Orchard, because it was super close to where I lived but Eckerts Orchard in Versailles and Mulberry Orchard in Shelbyville are also fun options! When I previously lived in the DC area, I visited Shaw Orchards and loved it. {Their Pink Lady apples were SO good that I’m hoping I can make it out this year.}

- Go wine tasting! I am definitely a wine novice, but since Virginia is a wine region it seems like the natural replacement to all of the bourbon tastings I did when I lived in Kentucky. On my list to check out in Northern Virginia are Dry Mill Vineyards & Quattro Goombas.
My (Socially Distanced & Safe) Fall Bucket List | Additional Items on the List
Other items on my list:
- Go on a drive to see fall foliage. I drove out to Winchester on Friday and got to see a tiny preview, but it was still a tad too early to truly admire all the fall color.
- Find a fun DIY project. Pretty sure this may look like painting and putting up peel and stick wallpaper this year, but last year I had a blast painting pumpkins with my friends Emily and Lindsay for a fall girls’ night.

- Voting, obviously. I was able to register to vote in Virginia last week which I had been a tad bit nervous about. {The DMV is currently appointment only and I can’t get in to switch my license over until mid November.}
- Continue to declutter. I was feeling very proud of the fact that I’d gotten everything to fit in my closet and then I found another moving box full of sweaters, coats, and puffer vests. While it’s pretty clear that I’ll likely never be a minimalist, I am trying to work on letting go of things I don’t need.
My (Socially Distanced & Safe) Fall Bucket List | About the Outfit
A couple of weeks ago, I stopped into one of my local LOFT stores to check out their early fall new arrivals and was immediately taken with this burgundy skirt. It’s a high waist as well as an elastic waist making it perfect for tucking in blouses or knotting tees. Burgundy is one of those fall hues that pairs well with all of the neutrals in your closet. Wear it with a jean jacket {like I did here} or a chambray shirt, add a chunky knit sweater, or tuck in an olive green or navy blue top.

Here I tucked in one of my new Madewell tees that’s a sage green and then added my jean jacket for an easy, casual look. The burgundy floral print pairs perfectly with my leather backpack and is a great hands free option for outdoor fall activities like apple picking.
