Summer in Kentucky consists of a lot of humidity and sweating which means that when the heart of summer arrives, I typically need to adjust my summer makeup routine. Today I’m sharing the beauty products that I use in my summer makeup routine to create a face that won’t melt away at the first sign of humidity. Over the past couple of years, my skin has cleared up a ton and I’m able to wear light makeup instead of feeling like I have to cover acne scars and blemishes.

Summer Makeup Routine | The Brows.
It seems like more than usual, I’m running late and out the door during the summertime. I like to make sure that my daily face can be thrown into a makeup bag and quickly applied while I’m on the go. My starting point always is my eyebrows and I stick to this Anastasia Beverly Hills kit. This kit features a brow powder duo with a lighter and darker shade to layer into your brows with the brush and then can be finished off with the clear brow gel. Anastasia’s brow gel is super strong and best of all stays put, even when you sweat, unlike some tinted brow gels.
Summer Makeup Routine | The Eyes.
You may have noticed that there’s no shadow palette pictured and that’s not a mistake! While there are several shadow primers that I swear by, I usually skip the shadow step during the summer. Lately, I’ve been loving Stila’s Stay All Day liquid eyeliner; the super fine tip applicator makes putting eyeliner on a breeze. Trust me, I’m the gal that can never wing her liner & this has been a game-changer!
If you follow along on Instagram, you may have seen that I stopped by CosBar in Lexington and have been trying the Smokey Eye Mascara from Bobbi Brown. I’ve been using it for about two weeks now and really like that the applicator is dense but doesn’t apply clumpy.
Summer Makeup Routine | The Skin.
Overall, the biggest change I make during the summer months is the switch from foundation to tinted moisturizer. The heat here calls for something lightweight to avoid clogging pores. This tinted moisturizer has SPF {so important to prevent premature aging!} & gives my skin more breathability than a traditional, full coverage foundation. Be prepared when squeezing the tube, the formula is closer to a BB cream than foundation and comes out thin. Make sure to use a setting spray after blending this in; I also like to set with a mineral veil.
Lastly, during the summer months I like to switch my blush to a brighter shade so I typically put away my NARS blush and break out a coral shade that warms up my skin. With the light sheen that often blesses skin during the summertime, I’ll shy away from blushes with glitter or sheen in them. This coral shade from Tarte has a matte finish that’s super flattering in the glow of summer.
What are the products that you add into your summer makeup routine?

Oh my gosh, I bet!
I hope one day I get to switch to a simple routine like this. For now, adult acne and hyperpigmentation are kicking my butt, so I’m all about the coverage. But your routine sounds so great! I love that Tarte blush and use it every day!
Ahh I hear you! The Tarte blushes are so good!
Love that bold lip!
Thank you Anna!
Sounds like the perfect routine! The tinted moisturizer sounds amazing! I just got a new coral blush to try out for summer.
I’ve been loving the coral; I feel like in general they’re pretty buildable too so you can have just a hint of coral or apply it a little heavier!
I love Tarte’s blush! I wear it every day and it is so beautiful on
xoxo, Hannah
Totally agree – I love how pigmented they are.
I love this routine! SO simple. I switch to a light routine in the summer too so I can show off my freckles. It’s my favorite part of the season. I love every product you mentioned!
Aww thank you Taylor! Love that you show off your freckles!
the Stila eyeliner is amazing! There should be a deal on it during the Nordstrom sale. And I have that same shade of blush–it’s great!
I love this blush and yay for it being in the sale!
Ahhhh a fellow Kentuckian! I’m about an hour north of Lexington near Florence! You are so right though on the weather here. It gets pretty hot and a tinted moisturizer is the perfect way to transition our everyday makeup for the summer. Plus, the Tarte blushes are so good! Such a great roundup.
xoxo Bryanna
