Weeee I’m back today with a dressier look that definitely turned some heads the day I wore it but sometimes you just have to be faux real. This white feather jacket is actually faux fur lined around the end of torso and sleeves adding a fun texture to the white tweed number.
Don’t Worry Be Yoncé
There were so many things to celebrate this weekend like Oaks, Derby, Mother’s Day, the fact that I finally washed my hair {…okay maybe that last one isn’t necessarily a reason to celebrate.}
But, I wanted to share some photos of what I wore from the weekend prior when I went to Atlanta to see Queen B herself!
This was my third time seeing Bey; I won floor tickets to see her during the Mrs. Carter World Tour and went up to Cincinnati six months later to see her during the On the Run tour. While I typically never am willing to spend this type of cash on a concert ticket {#cheapgirlproblems}, she puts on one of the best live shows and I always seem to leave the concert inspired.
With her dropping an album the week prior to the concert, I really wasn’t sure what to expect or if I’d be as thrilled {confession: I still haven’t listened to Lemonade in it’s entirety}, but as usual she did not disappoint with incredible visuals, seamless transitions and killer dance moves that made me want to take my booty to the gym ASAP. My only real disappointment was when the Georgia Dome refused to let me in with my purse because it was “too big.”
Not long after I had bought tickets and made plans with my aunt to come visit during concert weekend, I saw this shirt online and knew that I had to have it. Atlanta is typically warm by May + the concert was indoors so I wasn’t too concerned about being cold, but I did decide to tie on a flannel just in case {and for style points.}
{Please don’t mind the ugly bruise I’m sporting from running into the side mirror of the car next to me in the parking lot… -insert eye rolling emoji here-}
After my tank arrived, I was a little dismayed to find that a regular bra just wasn’t going to cut it for me. I hadn’t tried the bralette trend yet, for several reasons — the main one being that I’m already pretty small in the chest. Giving up extra support and a push is a no go for me unless I’m at the gym in my sports bra. But with how low the arm holes on this tank were, I knew I needed to figure something out so I went by Aerie after looking online at some of their bralettes. I was pleasantly surprised to find this style that has some padding and even better was “buy one get one free” the day I stopped in.
The verdict: these are SO comfortable. After I got home from shopping, I put this one on because XS-XL sizing for bras seems wrong post-training bra days, but was pleased to find that the small fit perfectly. I didn’t have to worry about anything I didn’t want showing hanging out and {best part} I could even sleep in these. The racerback features adjustable, elastic straps while the rest is delicate lace.
With the buffalo plaid and classic look of a white top + blue jeans, I decided on my spotted Rebecca Minkoff tote that I still love and black accessories. I own the Kendra Scott Elisa necklace in two different colors and have to constantly tell myself to not indulge in more; the delicate, short piece is perfect for layering with chunkier necklaces or wearing alone. My all black watch and fringe sandals seemed like the perfect finishing touches.

Derby Days: Shabby Apple Nutcracker Dress
Happy Friday and if you’re a Louisvillian/Kentuckian, Happy Oaks Day! I’ve had this dress for awhile now, but hadn’t had a chance to style it here for the blog, but it seemed like the perfect dress for Oaks.
The first thing that pulled me towards this dress from Shabby Apple was the fun bow sleeves and bright color; as I’ve said before I’m not a huge pink person but am trying to get better this year about adding a wider variety of color to my closet. As much as I tease my mom about constantly wearing black, I have a big tendency to reach towards a navy or blue option when it’s available in anything.
I love how bold the color is here and wanted to really play it up by letting it be the main focus of this look. I decided to do so by pairing this up with neutral pieces like my nude lace up flats and a slightly blingy, but mostly gold arm party.
I love this simple cream fascinator; this one sits on a headband versus the clip in option and then has tulle and feathers. I don’t like to go too oversized with hats or fascinators and this one stays on the daintier side.
And since it’s Friday, here’s some Friday Favorites:
- Erin gave me major skirt envy with this flowy, pleated pink number!
- My bedroom is in major need of an overhaul and if I ever get around to it, I definitely want to make these DIY gold foil pillows!
- Kelly’s super personal post on miscarriages and infertility is extremely well written and personable. While I’ve never dealt with either, I felt very choked up just reading her experience and knowing now that she’s super close to bringing a sweet babe into the world.
- Lifeguard Press has Kate Spade 2017 agendas available for pre-order and I’m LOVING the Caning option and that they have spiral options too this year! I said that this was the year that I was going to use my planner all the way through, but I had a terrible accident where my Vitamin Water accidentally opened while in my Longchamp and soaked said agenda….
- I loved the Kentucky Derby themed LIKEtoKNOW.it takeover that was hosted this week by Shelby and Beth!
- These pom pom sandals have me feeling some type of way, but I might try my hand at a DIY.
This is the very last Derby Days post {ahhhh!}; hope you have a great weekend, whether it be spent in the infield sipping on Mint Juleps or at home watching the races!

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas + Jord Wood Watches
With Mother’s Day coming next Sunday, the hunt for a great gift is getting serious. For my mom, I knew I wanted to come up with some unique gift ideas since my mom is the perfect unique mom. I mean who else would voluntarily listen to me cry and rant about boys, school, friends, bad bosses, car problems and so on? Getting to go all out and shower my mom with gifts I know she’ll love always makes me truly happy.
And what’s more unique than a wood watch? My mom fell in love with mine over the holidays and still months later, looks wistfully at it. JORD offers a wide variety of models and colors, free sizing {use code whatnicoleworeFS}, and guaranteed delivery by Mother’s Day if you order by this Wednesday! Even better…I’ve teamed up with JORD to offer instant discounts to a few followers and my watch is 20% off right now with code 4MOMFIELDCREST6 — who can pass up that kind of deal?
I love the Fieldcrest because of how neutral it is; I have a lot of inexpensive, printed watches so having one that is an instant classic is something I love. My mom is a huge lover of classics {mom, if you’re reading this please stop wearing so much black} so an accessory like this one, that’s a conversation starting, statement piece, is right up her alley.
I styled my wood watch very casually in this look; while it’s easy to include this one of a kind watch alongside other bangles, I also enjoy wearing it on it’s own. The watch is on the chunkier side and stands out without any sidekicks, making it super ideal for the lady in your life that’s always on the go {or always running late!}
I love this new Old Navy tank, it’s lightweight, soft and the mixed stripes immediately called to me. I’m not a huge fan of the split hem trend, but these ones aren’t terribly high and so I figured I could deal, especially with it being marked down to $10 in stores not too long ago. I paired mine with my utility vest since the weather in Louisville has been up, down and all around lately.
And of course, spoiling your mom with a great new watch might not be enough….here’s some add on gift ideas that I love:
PS. Paper Source is offering free shipping when you spend $35+ today! They very rarely have free shipping offers so now’s a great time to grab a card for Mom {and Dad, the grads in your life, the upcoming newlyweds, etc}
Derby Days: Blush Bow Dress
Y’all what a week! It’s been super crazy and Friday seemed to kind of sneak up on me, which is always nice. I’m headed to Atlanta this weekend to visit my aunt and cousin {and to see Beyoncé, no big deal.} Kind of bummed to miss some NBA playoff action, but with my Clippers going into their annual playoff self-combustion mode, I’m not too worried about missing anything of value.
Everybody in Louisville seems to be getting excited for the Kentucky Derby and with the race being just 8 days away {say what?!} it seemed like a great time to show off this blush bow dress that’s perfect for race day plus all the spring and summer soirees you have coming up.
Let me start by talking about this fascinator situation; when I started dreaming up this Derby Days series, I knew that I wanted to write about budget friendly looks for the most part and so I ended up ordering about six different fascinators from Amazon. I’ve been so blown away by the quality and would highly recommend them — there are options in every different color and you still have the option to add onto your fascinator if you decide to customize your outfit. This one took a little bit longer to ship, but they do have plenty of options that are Prime eligible which rocks.
I loved this dress on the site and the fit is perfect {I went with a small based off the measurements online}; while the material is thicker than a t shirt dress, I still found that my legs showed through a bit too much as it is unlined, but was fine once I put on my mini slip. I did also sew the back of the bow to the dress. The longer portion of the bow flapped around and was only attached at the center, but after a few stitches on each side everything stayed in place. It’s not a secret that I love fit and flare, I’ve always found them to be flattering on my body. I also love that this dress has half length sleeves, at this point in the year I never know if I’m going to be hot or cold so having an in between is good.
I decided to go with neutral accessories to play up with pretty blush hue and subtly girly details of my dress. My Love Crossbody has been my go to handbag lately; it’s just the right size for my wallet, keys and a few other items {lotion, gum, lipstick}. The color and gold hardware were big factors in me buying the bag.
