If there’s one thing these past ten months have taught me, it’s that you can never be too prepared. A couple weeks ago, I got to attend a virtual event with some other bloggers to learn all about some of the unexpected winter offerings available this year at DICK’s Sporting Goods. Afterwards, I got to shop for myself and get bundled up (literally) for the winter months here in Washington DC. And as much as I wish I could channel my inner Elsa and be all ~the cold never bothered me anyways,~ I am sadly someone that is very much bothered by the cold.

Bundling Up for the Unexpected with DICK’s Sporting Goods | The Unexpected
When I think of DICK’s my mind goes to athletic apparel and, as their name suggests, sporting goods. I was surprised during the event when I found out that their offerings go beyond this and include most of the gear you need to thrive during the winter months — they carry brands like Doc Martens, UGG, Birkenstock, and more!

And no matter who you’re shopping for they have winter gear ready so you can bundle up for any and all occasions. Seriously! When we went through their virtual event I was surprised when they went through all their winter offerings. Want to take up snowshoeing this year? DICK’s has you covered. Need sleds or toboggans? Also available! Perhaps best of all is that they now offer contactless curbside pickup. Order online, choose your local store, and you can schedule your pickup in as quickly as an hour.

DICK’s Sporting Goods is offering 40% off select outerwear through February and through the end of January they have 30% off select boots and up to 50% off athletic shoes. With this being my first winter back in the DC suburbs, I knew that ordering a new winter jacket would be an investment I’d appreciate. They have a huge outerwear selection so it was a bit tough but I narrowed it down to a few jackets that I love.

Bundling Up for the Unexpected with DICK’s Sporting Goods | The Coats I Debated
- First up in the top left, is the Women’s Gotham Parka from North Face. The parka comes in the gray pictured as well as solid black and solid white options. I liked that this option has a fully adjustable hood.
- In the top right you’ll see the coat I ended up ordering, Patagonia’s Down Sweater Jacket. This jacket is available in a bunch of solid colors, but I was drawn to the Cornice Grey option that features gray, silver, and bronze. It’s down filled, water and wind resistant, and still lightweight.
- The red coat in the middle is the Arctic Night Down Jacket from DICK’s Sporting Goods in house brand, Alpine Design. It’s such a bold shade of red, on sale, and down filled as well.
- The burgundy jacket is chic in the burgundy shade while also providing a longer park length to keep your core warm. Columbia’s Ember Springs Down Jacket features a neck funnel as well as a sherpa lined hood.
- Rounding things out is the Patagonia Radalie Jacket. This caught my eye during the virtual shopping event because of the fun colors it’s available in. This yellow would add a much needed pop of color during the gray months.
In the end, I ordered the Down Sweater Jacket and it arrived just in time for this week’s winter weather. When I wore this out to run errands and shoot photos on an early weekend morning, I was SO grateful for the pockets. It was in the 20s when I shot these pictures and did make me think that I might need to grab some gloves and even an ear warmer soon.

Another thing I picked up were some new shoes. I’m wearing the Nike Court Vision Shoes in these pictures; they’re currently on sale and I love the leopard. Sticking with the animal print theme, I also ordered myself some new Sperry Saltwater Duck Boots. These are the best for snow days; I bought my first pair five years ago now and swear by them. The snow boots are fleece lined which helps to keep your feet warm and have the rubber shell to keep feet dry.
