Lately I’ve been doing something new on Instagram Stories every weekend where I ask my followers to share their unpopular opinions. Sometimes I’ve picked a topic, sometimes it’s a free for fall, but it’s always incredible entertaining. This past weekend was all about style hot takes and we broke my Instagram stories so I figured I’d share some more of mine in today’s blog post.

7 of My Unpopular Opinions on Style | My General Rules
It seems prudent to start with a big one: there’s really no rules to fashion; wear what you want, like, and feel good in. It felt like I said this over and over in my DMs but if it makes you feel good about yourself, wear it! The things that look worst on me are the pieces, trends, and brands I don’t feel comfortable in. When you don’t feel confident, it shows, you’re not happy, the whole thing is a mess.

My next opinion is somewhat related: there’s no one size fits all guide to personal style. What looks great on one person may not on the next. Some of this comes down to body type which is why you’ll see guides on how to dress your body type, but there’s more factors everything from posture to undergarments.
7 of My Unpopular Opinions on Style | Throwback and Quarantine Trends
Third take: I haven’t really been feeling the early 2000s throwback trends that are big right now. The skinny sunglasses and bucket hats bring back memories of not having any personal style. I respect other people wanting to wear them, but they’re not for me.

Next on my list: house dresses! It’s a body type thing but I like my clothes to have structure and shape because I feel like they’re most flattering on me. Would I wear a house dress at home? Absolutely. Would I feel comfortable and confident going out wearing one? Probably not so much.
7 of My Unpopular Opinions on Style | Monograms & High Heels
This hot take is probably going to upset some of my southern followers: you don’t need a monogram on everything. Once in awhile is nice, on every single item is too much for me.

Also, high heels are a torture device. A block heel can be comfortable, a stiletto is misery in the form of a shoe. Love yourself and say no.
7 of My Unpopular Opinions on Style | A Beauty Hot Take
Nude lipstick is beautiful buuuuut not when it’s a shade or two lighter than your skin tone. I don’t know what the technical description of this is, but I refer to it as a powdered sugar donut mouth. It makes me cringe.

One of my go to closet staples is a little black dress {linking to a similar one that’s on sale!} and one way to make it appropriate for the summer to fall transition is by adding a layering piece, like this white lace kimono. To add a touch of fall, I added in a felt hat and of course I’m wearing one of the biggest accessories for 2020: a pretty face mask!

The only fashion rules I follow are the weird ones I made up in my own mind hahaha. I agree about the heels. I’ll wear heels just like the ones on your snake print booties, but I won’t go beyond that. I won’t even buy the shoes, period.
