I get asked a lot about wardrobe staples & I know one of the most common inquiries that I get is a style blogger is, “I just bought XYZ — how can I wear it?” Today’s post is alllllll about that. I’ve taken 10 fall closet staples and am showing 20 fall outfits you can create with them. For those wondering what counts in this challenge; I limited my ten pieces to tops, leggings, bottoms, and jackets.

How to Make 20 Outfits from 10 Wardrobe Staples | What I Chose
I tried to purposely pick items that I know most women have some version of in their wardrobe that way these outfits were easy to recreate without feeling like you have to go buy a whole new set of clothes. Here’s what we’re working with today:
- J. Crew Striped Turtleneck c/o Gordmans // While the price tag on these isn’t bad ($14.50), if you have a Gordmans nearby check them out. I snagged mine for $5.99. {PS. Don’t have a striped turtleneck? Substitute for a solid one or a long sleeve striped tee!}
- Express Chenille Cowl Neck Sweater c/o Gordmans {similar} // This one’s listed online for $40.99, I snagged mine recently from Gordmans for $16.99. {No cowl neck? No problem! Use your favorite cozy sweater in place for this.}
- Chenille Cardigan c/o Gordmans {similar} // I was eyeing a similar cardigan from LOFT before finding this one for $18. {Can easily substitute this for any cardigan!}
- J. Crew Factory Sidewalk Skirt c/o thredUP // I have this skirt in a few different colors and prints; the solids are super versatile and easy to pair with tights as it gets cooler.
- Utility Jacket c/o SheIn {similar} // Can also substitute this for a jean jacket!
- Gingham Button Up Shirt {similar}
- LOFT Outlet Tuxedo Stripe Skinny Jeans {similar} // I snagged these during the Columbus Day weekend sale; they’re currently on sale for $34! {Again, these can be replaced by any pair of skinny jeans!}
- Faux Suede Moto Jacket c/o {similar}
- Graphic Tee // This can be replaced by your favorite basic tee as well!
- Spanx Faux Leather Leggings
Now let’s jump into the outfits for fall!

The first outfit combination is my moto jacket, the striped turtleneck and my new tuxedo skinny jeans. I tied in the brown with a leather carryall tote and cognac mules. You could throw on a pendant necklace or some statement earrings.

I took that same striped turtleneck switched the moto jacket for my field jacket and slipped into my faux leather leggings. While my exact leggings are a bit of a splurge, I’ve been really impressed with the quality and know I’m going to be able to remix them quite a bit to get a low cost per wear.

Swap out the black leggings for a black, high waisted skirt. Add a fun pair of loafers and some statement earrings to complete the look.

Alright now it’s time to throw on your favorite pair of skinny jeans and add a blanket scarf. I like that the stripes on my jeans and turtleneck coordinate here but definitely not a necessity.

Sweater weather is here! For this look, I paired the striped turtleneck {have I convinced you yet that it’s a must have for fall?!} with a chenille cardigan and our tuxedo stripe jeans.

My last look with this $6 turtleneck {for now}, is under the longer, chenille cardigan with my faux leather leggings. I like the way this turquoise necklace really elevates the outfit; if turquoise isn’t your jam, go with a white or burgundy!

With my new turtleneck being $5.99, my cost per wear is just 75 cents if I wear each of these combos! All the praise hands.

Thank you, Nicole!! I need all the help I can get when it comes to fashion and mixing & matching, lol! Love that you took photos with the outfits on, as opposed to laying them out. It always helps to actually see them on someone. You look beautiful as always!
