Feeling VERY Beyoncé in this yellow maxi dress and not at all mad at it. The past month or so has been a real rollercoaster of emotions. Lots of highs and lows and in a humbling way, it’s been a great reminder that you should be your own sunshine. Entrusting your happiness in someone else can be exciting but at the end of the day if you’re not happy with who you are and what you’re doing, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

How to Be Your Own Sunshine on a Rainy Day | Don’t Be Shy About What You Want
Last week I went on a date and while talking about communication styles the guy said something that stuck with me. “I hate when people are passive aggressive,” he said, “If you have a problem with me, bring it to the front door.” {This was hands down the most forward anyone’s ever been with me on a first date, but that’s a whole different blog post.}

Anyone else ever felt passive aggressive about their own goals? Sometimes when I think of something big, I talk myself away from it. “That’s too big of a goal,” “I need to do X before I can do that,” etc. Having goals is important but can definitely be scary at times. Still it’s important to bring those goals to the front door. Remember why you’re doing something and why you want to achieve it.
How to Be Your Own Sunshine on a Rainy Day | Understand Your Own Worth
Admittedly, this one can be tough for me. I’m very analytical and self-critical and in being so can get carried away and not give much thought to what I’m doing well. One thing that I’m working on this year is reframing the way that I think about things. When things go wrong or not as I expected, I tend to berate myself for it and when things go right, I usually chalk it up to luck or circumstances out of my control. Crediting myself when something goes well and giving myself a little more grace when things go left is such a small thing but helps me feel better.

Most importantly, I think that understanding your worth means standing your ground. We all have different values that are important to us and honoring them and not letting someone talk us out of them let’s us feel that we’re respecting ourselves.
How to Be Your Own Sunshine on a Rainy Day | The Outfit
Lately I’ve been loving everything yellow; it’s such a happy color and wearing it is one of the small things I can do that sparks joy. This off the shoulder, maxi dress features pleats in the bold summer dress. I kept things simple by pairing it with a straw purse and tropical themed earrings. To tie in my makeup, I went with a red-orange lipstick and used orange and gold eyeshadows.
